Primer to Walls:
  • Allows a better adherence of the paint in the surface;
  • Avoids that the existing alkalinities in the surface attack the final painting;
  • Covers the stains and nuances in colour;
  • Acts as a siccative in porous surfaces;
  • Allows uniform and smooth surfaces.

Preparation of the surface and use of primer:
  • The surfaces must be firm, free of dust, grease and inadherent particles.
  • Apply a primer coat in the entire surface.
  • If there are cracks, they must be repaired with Barrimate Fina. It must be left drying and must be sand, levelling the surface. Apply a primer coat over the repairs which have been made.
  • Sand the entire surface carefully in order not to remove the applied primer.
  • Apply a finishing paint.
Properties Support type Application Coverage Rates Drying time
Acriláqua Acrylic aqueous primer, anti-alkaline, surface’s siccative standardizing the surface’s absorption.  Interior and exterior surfaces. Projected stucco or hard backed plaster. One coat, without thinning using a paint brush or a roller.  8-10 m2/ Lt / coat Approx. 4 hours
Primatin White aqueous primer, anti-alkaline, surface’s siccative and standardizing the surface’s absorption. Projected stucco or hard backed plaster. One coat, without thinning using a paint brush or a roller 8-10 m2/ Lt / coat Approx. 4 hours
Aqueous Primarlite  White aqueous primer, containing Pliolite resin, high resistance to alkalinity and strong penetration in the support.   Interior and exterior absorbent surfaces and/or high in alkalinity.  One coat, without thinning using a paint brush or a roller. 6-8 m2/ Lt / coat Approx. 4 - 6 hours
Primarlite SL Pliolite resin white primer, solvent based anti-alkaline.  Tin-plated walls, alkaline surfaces, very porous and pulverulent. One coat, without thinning using a paint brush a roller or a paint spray gun. 6-8 m2/ Lt / coat Approx. 6 hours
Vougacril Colourless aqueous acrylic primer, standardize the surface’s absorption. Absorbent surfaces, in the interior. Projected stucco and tin-plated walls. One coat, without thinning using a paint brush a roller or a paint spray gun. 9-10 m2/ Lt / coat Approx. 3- 4 hours
Anti-stain Primer White acrylic aqueous primer, insulating several types of stains, anti-alkaline and siccative.  In the interior, blocks nicotine stains, smoke, humid dried stains, among others. One coat, without thinning using a paint brush or a roller. Two coats on difficult stains, like coffee. 8-10 m2/ Lt / coat Approx. 4 hours
Multi-Primer White acrylic aqueous primer. Good adherence in difficult surfaces.  Wood, stainless steel, aluminium, zincked plate, glass and glazed tile.  One coat, without thinning using a paint brush a roller or a paint spray gun. It is possible a synthetic based finishing. 8-10 m2/ Lt / coat At least 24 hours

Painting of interior walls:
  • New surfaces:
  • All the cracks must be previously repaired with Barrimate Fina. Dry and sand using some thin grain sandpaper, in order to level the surface.
    The surfaces must be out of dust or grease.
    Apply an adequate primer to the surface. Apply the finishing coat

  • Painted surfaces:
  • All the old and inadherent paint must be removed using a spatula. Sand that area using some thin grain sandpaper, levelling the surface.
    If necessary, use Barrimate Fina. Dry and sand it, in order to level the surface. Apply a primer in that area, standardizing the surface’s absorption and paint it.
    In whitewashed walls or painted in white lead, brush well the surface and apply the “Primarlite SL”.
    In areas with fungus, wash the surface with water and bleach. Afterwards, rinse only with water to remove traces of bleach and apply anti-fungal solution – “Fungilimpa”.
    In areas with smoke stains, nicotine or other, brush thoroughly the surface and apply the “Anti Stain Primer”.

  • Painting:
  • Stir well the paint, before using it.
    Respect the dilution and drying periods indicated in the package.
    After being all conveniently isolated (footers, hoops, switchers,…) begin painting using a paint brush, the angles formed by the walls, near the ceiling and footers, around the windows and doors.
    There is a specific order to paint a room. We begin from up to down. Start painting by the ceiling.
    Then, paint using the appropriate roller the remaining surface, paying special attention to cross coats and spreading the paint in a uniform way.
    Let dry well the first paint coat. Only then, you can apply the second coat, having always this same procedure, and so on.

GENERAL PAINTING GUIDE:
Planning the paiting:
  • Type of paint
  • Paint’s quantity
  • Colours
  • Necessary materials
  • Arranging space
  • Surface preparation
  • Climatic conditions
  • Painting – Where to start? Applying paint
  • Finishing
  • Cleaning
Rules to a quality painting
  • Paint two successive and thin coats will have a better result than painting a thick coat, which will take more time to dry and will leave marks easily.
  • Theoretical coverage – when buying an expensive paint, which theoretical coverage is excellent, it becomes more economic than a cheaper paint, once this has a lower theoretical coverage. So, more coats of paint will be necessary than in an expensive one. It is common to use cheaper paint in a larger amount than using a small amount of the most expensive one.
  • Pay attention to the existing defects on the surface which is going to be painted. They must be repaired first and being painted only after that.
  • The surfaces painted using brightness paint will reflect more light than the matte ones. So, the imperfections will be easily visible.
  • Before painting a surface using a glossy paint, apply one or two coats of a matte paint.
  • Use a siccative (primer) before painting. It closes the wall’s pores preventing wasting paint. Consequently, it will have a better theoretical coverage.
  • To paint exterior stonework walls, the acrylic paints are the most durable and resistant to weather variations and solar rays, among others.
  • Before starting painting, shake the paint well until get the perfect homogenization.
  • Eliminate the sprinkling of the fresh paint by using a wet fabric, excepting in glass. It becomes easier to remove the paint after drying, using a spatula.
  • Dust is a great enemy of painting. In the interiors, air flows must be avoided. The pavement must be cleaned avoiding the raise of dust, attaching to the walls, becoming difficult the paint adherence.  In the exterior, working in windless days should avoid not only the dust, but also insects attached to the paint.
  • Dark rooms gain luminosity if painted in bright colours.
  • A high room will seem short if the ceiling has a dark color. On the other side, if the ceiling has a bright color, that room will seem to be higher.
  • Humidity problems are not solved using paint. It should be determined the source of that humidity, correct the problem, and only then, painting the surface.  If that repair work is not made and the paint is applied, it will crack and crumble.
